This project is focused on recycling plastic mulch film, begining on the farm and moving the film and tape through the collection, transportation and reprocessing steps toward new plastic products.   The project will introduce new methods and equipment for retrieving the mulch film from the field and removing major dirt and debris in an efficient fashion while reducing the farmer’s manpower and costs.   The project is attempting to establish a permanent collection/compaction enterprise pilot operation which can be replicated across the industry.   Accurate costing and efficiency data will be collected and analyzed to affirm the cost saving to the farmer.   The findings will be converted into “Best Management Practices” to be published by the NC Agriculture Extension Service in 2018.
