China Recycling Market Update (2017/12/19)

A nationwide action organized by the State Administration of Customs focusing on the smuggling of solid waste was carried out on the morning of 19/12/2017. During this crackdown, 47 illegal operations were exposed and 127 suspects were arrested. This was the fourth round of the “Blue-sky Action” deploying over 1770 people from 19 Customs offices of China creating biggest action in terms of scale and scope. This action covered 13 provinces and cities including Huangpu, Guangzhou, Shantou, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Hebei, Tianjin, and Liaoning. Over 7,739 tons of solid waste of slags, waste plastics, and waste rubber were seized apart from book records of 323,000 tons of solid waste smuggled. The Customs offices of China have set up 298 criminal prosecution cases so far this year with 866,800 tons of solid waste involved and 421 suspects arrested.
